Sacramento, CA –A lawsuit has been filed against the county and Sheriff Scott Jones by the family of a man who was shot and killed by a sheriff’s deputy. The claim which was filed on Thursday is seeking more than $10 million in compensation for alleged constitutional violations. Lamont Harmon, 47, was shot when he ran from Deputy Nathan Burnette after he was stopped for questioning regarding a stolen vehicle. The incident occurred in a Kmart parking lot on Stockton Boulevard on Feb. 6. Deputy Burnette claims that Harmon reached into his waistband, causing him to believe he was grabbing for a weapon. The lawsuit was filed by Harmon’s mother, wife and 13-year-old daughter.
